How to place bets on the different place markets available

I have been using the api for some time now and searched the docs high and low but have never been able to work out how to bet on the different place markets available.
ie. Horse racing markets - how do I retrieve/bet on a 2 places market or a 3 places market or a 4 places market etc ?
it only seems possible to bet on a Win market or a Places market but I have no idea how many places the Place market refers to.
I can't understand why this has not been made clear in the docs.
Anyone have any ideas would be much appreciated thanks.

The number of places available usually depends on the type of race and the number if runners. I'm surprised to see multiple place markets for one race, but I've looked on Betfair and the first race I looked at has six runners with place markets for two and three places. As you're familiar with the API, I would suggest that you find a race you know has multiple place markets and get hold of and save the data from every marketCatalog there is for that race and check out the descriptions, etc. You could also look at marketTypes, because there has to be something in there to differentiate them from the standard place markets for the field size and race type.
