Tips to minimise the time between place and match

I'm placing some orders as soon as I see batb or batl reach a certain price. I understand there is probably a 300ms delay between when the price is available and when the order is recorded as placed by betfair. But I am seeing a 5-8 second difference between the place time and the match time, as recorded by betfair in the order. Is there anything I can do to reduce the time difference?

oh it seems to be if it's a pregame bet it's instant, and if the event is in play then it's 5 seconds. so i guess it's out of my control.

found this in the docs:

betDelay

The number of seconds an order is held until it is submitted into the market. Orders are usually delayed when the market is in-play

guessing the boolean part is a typo but this totally explains it.
