listCurrentOrders returning empty response during high volume events

List current orders responds with empty set after repeated API calls and thus I am not able to see if an order is lapsed or under process. Is there any other way to do this so that it can be found out if an order is processed or lapsed immediately? Have asked the query before but not able to find the right process to be followed.
