    Delayed key and streaming API

Does the streaming API work with the delayed key?

Looking to build something in Python, early stages so don't want to pay out £299 quite yet.

You have to contact BDP support to get access to the streaming API, I couldn't say whether they'll grant it if you only have a delayed API key.

I'm not sure why you'd need it though, you can access all data via APING so if it's just for development that should meet your needs.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if it would help my strategy idea but it would be good to test it and understand as much as I can before shelling out 299.

I can see that sometimes betfair don't grant api keys. What type of strategies dont they like? Want to be sure not wasting my time developing something that betfair would frown upon.

I don't work for Betfair or anything like that so I can't tell you for sure, but as I understand it as long as you're not breaking the rules or taking the p1ss (like laying 1p bets at 1.49) then they don't worry about your strategy, it's just a case of whether you bet. Basically they don't want lurkers caning the API for data but not putting money down. My guess (and it is only a guess) is that those who've been refused keys either have no history of betting or are suspected of using dubious strategies to avoid charges.

My own experiences of communicating with Betfair have been pretty positive - I've always had straightforward answers to questions. I were in your position I'd just contact them and ask what the requirements are.

If you're looking for a simple and low cost way to get going writing bots you might be able to just get a Gruss subscription, let them deal with the API stuff and take the data you want through the comm interface. That way you can work out if you're profitable with minimum outlay - although it would depend on your exact data needs. Other providers supply similar tools - there might be one that suits you.

I have implemented streaming api, here you can see case studies showing advantages:

You can use either my app, and if you do not like it, you can use my bot sdk to build your bot solutions with your user interface, or whatever you like to build.
