    LOGIN_RESTRICTED_LOCATION - Ireland not ok?

    Hi there,

I'm trying out an Amazon/AWS micro instance that is supposed to be located in Ireland - is that location not allowed, I'm getting LOGIN_RESTRICTED_LOCATION?

    Cheers,

    Toby

AWS is usually hosted in US regardless of the area the service serves

Thanks for your reply - if I do a geo lookup on the instance, it points to Ireland?

Could bf know it was from AWS?

Would they therefore put a blanket block on access because they cannot verify the origin of the person using it?

        Just a thought.

I...don't know! I guess if so they'd have to ban everything, wouldn't they, as anyone could obtain hosting anywhere?!

To rub salt into the wounds, aren't the Betfair servers based in Ireland?! Maybe you could route some test requests to BF via an Irish based proxy to confirm that an Irish IP address (not one dished out by AWS within Ireland) works OK?

To be honest, it's a bit academic - if the AWS instance won't work I'm guessing there's nothing I can really do about it.

Just for interest in case anyone else has this on their radar (as I do as I travel from time to time and am frustrated by the access restrictions, and have also considered running stuff in the cloud). Recently came across the 'my security' tab within 'my accounts'. It shows your last 10 logons, including the IP and the (what looks to be) location Betfair infers from that IP. Also whether the logon was successful or not. Am pretty certain it includes API logons.

I'm also getting a LOGIN_RESTRICTED_LOCATION error when trying to run my bot from Windows Azure. I picked a data centre in North Europe (Ireland) to host the bot, but it seems the IP address broadcast by the bot has location United States.

It looks like I'll have to relocate my bot back to a server running in my loft!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems neither Amazon Web Services or Windows Azure can be used to host code that calls into the Betfair API.

Just saw this thread but I can say I'm using my bot from Amazon/Ireland, and
it works well. Been doing so since september 2013
