I have historical data for horse racing. Help me understand what the digits in the directory names mean.

For example:


1) BASIC/2015/Nov/6/27593233/

2) BASIC/2015/Nov/6/27593233/1.121701508.bz2

3) BASIC/2015/Nov/6/27593233/




Q:

1) What are these digits in the a) directoriy names b) file names? What do they refer to?

2) What's the prefix "1." for in the names of some *.brz2 files?

Package (BASIC/ADVANCED/PRO) / Year / Month / EventId / MarketId

"1." is a prefix used for all markets to represent the id of the Exchange. This is a legacy from when we operated a separate Australian Exchange. At the time, "1." represented all markets on the .com (international Exchange), and "2." represented Australian Exchange markets. Only "1." is used in the historical data files.

In a single directory there're usually multiple types of files:

(1) one file named = EventId
(2) one or multipe files named (".1" + some kind of ID)


Do those ID-s in (2) represent MarketID-s? If so, what's the market ID of the (1) file then?

What's EventID? In case of Horse Racing, does it represent one horse race?

Why multiple ones of the (2)?

These are markets i.e. marketId's that belong to a single event. An event can contain one or more marketId's.

What do those ID-s in (2) represent? Are they ID-s of some markets? If so, what's the market ID of the (1) then?

The ids represent Betfair Exchange markets. The eventId is a separate id representing the unique identifier for an event.

This is the specific Event file. Event files contain all marketId’s (market files) within an event interleaved with each other based on ascending published time order.
