Can we match the soccer events with leagues without matching runners name?

I'm working on the Betfair historical data and hope to extract data of specific events from leagues that I'm familiar with. But it's difficult because I can only use the runners name like teams and players to match the event with the league. So I wonder if there's another way to solve the problem.
