Does an order last indefinitely?

If I place an order with "persistenceType: LAPSE", and omit the "timeInForce" parameter, am I correct in thinking that the order will stay active until either it is placed at the specified price or the market goes in play?

Yes, the order will sit there until the market starts.

Depending on the sport, there may be events that clear bets on the market. For example, non-runners in horse racing.
