      Newbie here!

      Completely new to this.
      Horrified at the charge.

I don't plan to pay £299 for the live API, and as a result have been completely put off the delayed one.

What an effective method of dissuading new developers.

I created keys a long time ago but have only been using the delayed key for app testing etc. However looks like because I didn't use the live key it never counted as 'activated' and now doesn't work, so guessing Betfair want me to pay the £299.

I can say that I certainly won't be doing that, and will just have to set up against another exchange! It's a shame they feel that it's necessary to do this, but guess there's not much I can do

                API key

I went back to use my app after a period of inactivity and noticed the live APIkey was inactive.

I emailed support and they told me
'To apply for a Live Application key please click here and select Exchange API > For My Personal Betting and complete the application form at the bottom of the page. A one-off activation fee of £299 applies; this is debited directly from your Betfair account if access is approved..'

I told them that I am already a current customer and have been using a live api key in the past and that I thought this registration process was only for new customers?

They then asked 'if I intended to use the live key to place betting transactions'

I responded 'yes' and they activated my live key again without charge.

I totally understand that they are trying to stop people using the live key to collect tons of data without actually placing transactions , but for those of us that WERE using it to place transactions in the past should not be penalized, thankfully I didn't have to pay a penny to get mine re-activated.

I had my app key activated a couple of years ago and did some development then shelved it. I recently started it up again and have discovered that it's been deactivated. I emailed support who told me I'd have to cough up the £299 which is quite a lot of money to me - I was hoping after reading the comment from Spiker that they might relent if I emailed them but it doesn't look like it.
Is Spiker's experience of getting the £299 waived exceptional?
                  Any advice gratefully received thanks.

                    Hi Zeddog,

                      Hi Neil,

thanks for the quick reply. Presumably it's OK to develop against the delayed app and then work out whether or not it'll be worth paying to activate the key for live data?
Can you tell me if the time offset on the delayed app is consistent across the lifetime of a market or is it variable? Analysis of rate of change or price is something that I'm interested in.

                      Thanks very much.

                        Yes, this is correct.

The rate of change is variable and can be anything between 1 & 60 seconds.

                        Kind Regards

                            Hi Zeddog/Neil,

I also chased this up yesterday morning as I was always under the impression that the £299.00 was being charged to everyone until I found this thread. Annoyingly I tried to use my Live Application Key less than 2 weeks after this new fee was introduced and found it de-activated.

It states in the "clarification" that "All access is subject to approval". What are the requirements for this as it would be a shame to spend months writing something on the delayed system only to not be approved for a live key?

                              Hi Basil333,

I think that as long as you use the delayed app responsibly (i.e. don't just hammer it like crazy for every bit of info you can get) then when you request the live key you should be ok - that's the assumption I'm working under anyway. I think you also need to have funds in your account too.

                                Hello,

After a period of inactivity I wanted to use my software again and noticed that my live API key was inactive.

I emailed the support and they told me that I have to pay a one-off activation fee of £299.

I have seen multiple posts on this forum (the one from Spiker for instance) saying that users who have been placing bets with their previous live key in the past don't need to pay this fee.
This is my case, I used the API in the past to place bets, and I mentioned it in my email.

When I developed my software at the time, it was specified on the website that Betfair live API was free and that it will stay free in the future for personal use, and this is the reason why I developed it.
I don't think this is fair for people who have spent resources and time in the past on this, because of this statement.

Others old active live API users have been experimenting this ?

                                Thank you,
                                Mikael
