Accessing Betfair API from Google Compute Engine instance

    Hi,

I am a long time user of the Betfair API and recently I looked into transferring some of our applications to a cloud solution.
I span up a VM instance on the Google Compute Engine in the "europe-west1" region. I copied up my application and went through all the setup & configuration.

On trying to login I get the following error...

    LOGIN_RESTRICTED_LOCATION

From my understanding this is because certain IP's are restricted based on geographic location...

As far as I was aware these servers are based in Ireland.
    Anyone had this experience before?

    Regards

Where is your Betfair account registered? Are you registered in a location that is now restricted (like Austria)?

Not that I am aware of. I'm based in Ireland and my account is/should be Irish too.

It seems to be the server. Even though the server is hosted in "europe-west" the IP seems to be considered US when I do a geographic check on it. Is this something that Betfair can override - i.e. allow an IP?
Unless its just me it seems to me that you cannot run any application connecting to Betfair on a Google Compute Engine instance...

Sorry - don't know. You could try asking bdp@betfair.com

What about Google? Can they allocate a different IP address (say from a range that is allocated to a non-US region)?

BF use Maxmind for geolocation -http://www.maxmind.com/en/correction

You will need to apply to them directly to reassign incorrect IP addresses.

I was just about to ask a similar question. Can I run a Betfair bot on a server that is based in Germany?

                  I don't believe so.

                    Jolly Roger,
I have a virtual server from a UK company, under a UK contract, that just happens to be physically located in Germany. I can log in to Betfair, get data and make bets, but NOT ON HORSERACING (event type 7). There's another thread on here 'List Events - Type 7' that discusses this issue. Short answer - 'Yes', unless it involves horseracing, in which case 'No'.
