    bets matching at funny odds

Hi, I placed two bets with a gap of about 1 second between them.

The first was placed at odds of 3.35, and the second at odds of 2.36. Both bets where back bets.

The first bet was backed at 2.76 which really confuses me.

I then cancelled the second bet so I don't know where that would have matched if I left it open.

I'm trying to imagine why the first bet matched at odds so far away from the target. I've checked the API post and response data and they confirm that an order was placed at odds of 3.35.

If anybody could explain why the bet matched at 2.76, and how I could prevent that happening in the future, I would be very grateful.

    Thanks,
    Adam

What event was the bet placed on? Was it a horse race?

Normally a back bet can only be matched at the requested odds or higher.

However, there are a number of occasions when the match can be lower:

    1. The bet was unmatched when the event went InPlay and you had chosen to be matched at BSP instead.

    2. The bet was subject to a reduction factor - e.g. one of the favourites in a horse race was withdrawn after your bet had been placed and matched. In this case, the odds of the bet are adjusted by a reduction factor.

Finally, are you absolutely certain the bet that was matched at 2.76 wasn't actually the second bet that you placed (i.e. the one that was placed at odds of 2.36) ?

      Thanks for the fast reply.

My mistake in the original post was saying it was a back bet - the bets place were actually lay bets, which I guess can match at the requested odds or lower (opposite to back bets matching higher or at requested odds)?

Also do you know if there is a way to restrict an order to not match at different odds to the requested price? The system I've been developing is practically dependant on bets matching at the requested odds

When lay betting, there is no way to restrict the lower odds at which you get matched, as being matched at a lower odds means that your liability is lower which is seen as providing better value.

          Thanks,

So I guess a back bet can be matched at higher odds than the requested odds too, because that would be a better deal?

Correct - a back bet will normally be matched at the requested odds or higher.
