Derive final race results from historical data?

    Hi there,

I am looking for a way to determine final horse race positioning for analysis. Research to date so far suggests Betfair do not directly offer this information anywhere in the API.

I was considering deriving it from historical data. Does anyone have any thoughts on the reliability of doing that? i.e. Are back prices towards the end of the race a 100% indicator of who actually won, came second, third, etc ?

I presume close finishes/deadheats will become difficult to determine or unreliable.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you
    John

    Hey Hey John,

You cannot get complete finishing position data from Betfair directly. Both TAB and Tatts in Australia provide result feeds each day where you can easily get the first 4 finishing positions from the data, but not margins and so on. Full data is only available from sources who provide database services...

Thanks Grantay, very helpful, I will look into those.

Do you by any chance know of any suppliers of full data ie. Finishing position, time/positions, distance ran, etc? (Paid for is fine, I understand these things cost money). I saw punters.com.au used to have this sort of stuff in an API, but their support tells me they no longer do it.

      Thanks heaps for any ideas
      John
