Progress of a horse race???

Hi,
Is it possible to find the progress of a horse race as a percentage?. So from when the market is active what is the current percentage of the race to when it is closed.

I just do it myself- eg A 1m flat race usually lasts around 95-100 seconds.
You can never be precise but close enough. By the way you know its getting near the end when the volatility starts to increase.
